Barry Family Dental Group

Orem, UT

For the Barry Family Dental Group, located in Orem, Utah Scott Ross chose a palette of fresh blues accented with white moldings and a variety of wood tones. Clean line traditional furnishings create a pleasant welcome feeling without being overly formal. A Craftsman inspired fireplace design looks updated in white paint and charming herringbone tile including an innovative border. Flooring was intentionally kept in a lighter bleached wood grain which creates a charming almost coastal feeling and keeps things from getting too serious. As always, Scott’s medical projects never come off clinical and cold, even when he works in cool tone colors and materials. Delightful light fixtures handcrafted in iron hearken back to traditional design but with an updated more contemporary look. As an interesting contrast, Scott carefully specified some of the millwork in a dark walnut finish, which is a clever juxtaposition from all the lighter finishes throughout the space. It’s interesting to note, that for this project, Scott was able to begin the style, palette and theme of the design right from the street. Since the client involved the design team in the selection of exterior materials as well, he was able to create a seamless start to finish for a successful design that will be on trend for many years to come.

Utah Neurological Clinic

Provo, UT

Utah Neurological, located in Provo, Utah is a very busy medical office that was in desperate need of more than a makeover. Scott Ross worked diligently with his team to transform this bland and dated office into a showplace for a group of physicians and their staff. Starting with a comfortable and refreshing palette of cool grey, soft green and silver, Scott thoughtfully paired it with rich cherry wood, keeping a necessary organic element in the mix. The palette also did something else that was badly needed. After years of hodge-podge additions and small “as-needed” remodels, there was an inconsistent  theme of mis-matched chairs, furnishings, colors and even artwork. With color, Scott pulled everything together – with simplicity at its core. With careful curation, Scott created a master palette that pleased the entire staff, and felt pleasantly updated to patients. With a decidedly corporate feel, Scott managed to pull off a chic art collection and fresh profiles in furnishings and accessories. As a side note, this extensive renovation was carried out while the clinic remained open for business. This was no small feat of coordination for Scott and his team. Keeping doctors, nurses, staff and patients happy all at the same, made the design on this project, the easiest part!

Nord Orthodontics

Orem, UT

Can an orthodontic office be gorgeous? Can it be relaxing? Can it be calming? For Scott Ross, the answer to all three questions is a resounding yes! Scott deftly uses a palette of soft blues, greys and fresh whites to achieve design nirvana in his design interpretation for Nord Orthodontics, located in Orem, Utah. The old school of thought that only warm colors can be comforting, is quickly debunked by this stunningly beautiful office. Scott knew from the day he first met the client that he wanted this office to not only look different, it had to also feel different. Fabrics and seating are inviting, tactile and simple. Exquisite finished carpentry is kept to a minimum, and the handsome reception desk is a study in texture and tone. Scott is quickly establishing a name for himself as the go-to guy for the medical and dental community when they need a design professional. Never one to follow tired clichés, Scott approaches his boutique medical projects with a complete open mind, unencumbered by any previous notion of what works and what does not in the way of design. Scott knows the rules, and he knows how and when to break them to achieve the outcome his client wants. Yes, it worked here.

Kuhni Orthodontic Studio

Spanish Fork, UT

A visit to the Orthodontist is not something many people look forward to, but given the dashing good looks of this project, we might just think otherwise. The goal here was not to look like a typical medical office, and Scott Ross pulled it off. By choosing a soft calming neutral palette, he created an almost ethereal space. With thoughtful attention to detail, right down to the gorgeous inset ceiling designs, Scott created a restful, clean and contemplative space for the Kuhni Orthodontic Studio, located in Spanish Fork, Utah. He didn’t stop there. Unusual furniture choices for the dental office lobby make the space feel more like a Spa retreat rather than a medical facility. Comfortable sofas and individual upholstered seating choices are comfortable and tailored in their simplicity, even elegant. A classic Herman Miller Eames chair located in the consultation suite, looks sumptuous in a light dove gray leather, adding a touch of sophistication and comfort. It wouldn’t be a Scott Ross project without a shot of color just to liven things up a bit. Pops of blue as subtle accents keep everything from feeling too serious and predictable.

Advanced Dental

Vernal, UT

As Scott Ross continues to build his impressive portfolio of Healthcare projects, he can now add Advanced Dental, located in Vernal, Utah. Scott worked well over a year with the client to select and specify the perfect balance of materials and furnishings for this handsome nontypical dental office. High ceilings, loads of natural light, warm earthy colors influenced by nature, and carefully curated materials, come together beautifully in what could have been a sterile, drab and clinical dental office. Scott took great care in his choices to always lean towards the side of comfort, calm and relaxing – terms not often associated with going to a dental practice. Architecturally designed by the prestigious Fazio Architects, based in Austin Texas, the building is seamless in design from the exterior to the interior. Scott thoughtfully approached every selection with a flow of materials and colors in mind. Even the most technical spaces, such as operatories and labs, received handsome finishes and elegant surfaces. Topped off with a great collection of artwork curated by Scott and his team, the project showcases what a designer can do when fully supported by the design build team and an open minded client.

2018 Dental Office Design Competition - Group Practice Design of the Year

The Abbington

Holladay, UT

In the highly competitive arena for Senior Living residences, Scott Ross truly raised the bar with his lovely interior design provided to The Abbington, a Senior Living project located in Holladay, Utah. The goal was to take a relatively large facility and pull it together through the use of color, texture and handsome woodwork, giving the property a warm, cozy and comforting interior. Scott provided exceptional design direction with his precedent study of the interior millwork, which harkens back to an Arts and Crafts theme. Warm and rich stained wood can be found throughout the facility along with cheerful and colorful art glass lighting. But don’t be deceived, what appears to be an upscale hospitality property, also has incredible functionality. With complete ADA access throughout the building, commercially graded durable fabrics and furnishings, and large open corridors for ease of use, this property is up for the challenge of providing exceptional care for its residents as they age in place. As senior residents transition to this next phase of their lives they will be surrounded by warm and familiar colors found throughout nature and comforted with furnishings that are appropriate, comfortable and elegant. The staff of The Abbington will also appreciate Scott’s attention to detail in the thoughtful selection of materials that will be durable, practical and easy to maintain. Avoiding the cookie cutter design approach to Senior Living afforded Scott the opportunity of creating something as special and unique as the residents who will choose to live there.
